Why is Yahoo purple? Red was so much better.

Over the last few years using purple became very trendy in site design. That could be one of the reasons.

It would appear that David Filo was sent out to buy grey paint for the office walls and came back with lavender by mistake.

Yahoo is a color that has been used as the company's logo since 1997. The original logo was designed by Yahoo! co-founder Jerry Yang and his wife, Tina Chen. It consists of three circles with a large "Y" in the middle. The colors are purple (the inner circle), yellow (middle circle) and green (outer circle).

The recognisable Yahoo wordmark now has a purple hue. Now that it's more artistic and imaginative, it conveys a feeling of harmony and motion. As an icon, a white exclamation point is employed and is positioned on a solid purple circle.

Why is Yahoo purple? This question has been asked many times and it's a very common question. The answer to this question is that it was the color of the logo of Yahoo before they changed their logo. Yahoo is an American multinational corporation headquartered in Sunnyvale, California. It owns and operates some of the most popular websites on the Internet such as: Flickr, Yahoo Mail, Yahoo Groups, Yahoo Answers, Tumblr, and more!

I remember once Yahoo had a feature to change the color from a choice of about 5 or 6. It was probably way back in 2009 or 10 I guess. The feature was cool and included red and purple.

Yahoo chose purple as their branding color because it represents creativity, curiosity, and innovation. It is a distinctive and memorable color, helping Yahoo to stand out in the market. The decision to switch from red to purple was likely based on market research and the desire to reposition the brand.

I will never forget the good old days with Yahoo Messenger.
Since Yahoo Messenger stopped, I haven't communicated much with Yahoo and its purple logo.:D

Interesting answers here. I also liked it better when it was red. I guess the habit/nostalgia has to do with it (since neither of these two colors is among my favorites).

Amusing. Its value has less to do with the color purple, and much more to do with billions of dollars in assets, favorable investment positions, no debt, profits, tons of deep multi-year, multi-billion dollar relationships with Google, Facebook, Microsoft, Apple and others, as well as deep market penetration in growing markets, solid relationships with the top advertisers, agencies, studios, and content providers on the internet, hundred of millions of users, incredible infrastructure that scales like no other company, etc. Among other things way too detailed to mention that are the things that drive successful multi-billion dollar companies.

Maybe they picked it to stand out or to show their creative side.
