This is a call to arms ladies and gentlemen

It seems to me that all over the place people are complaining about how terrible the service and fees are at paypal (that includes me).

So why is it that no one here at DP is using moneybookers instead.. They have a flate 1% transfer fee instead of netellers outrageous 2,9%-3,4% rates..

And for me, being an international, withdrawing to my bank account just got a whole lot cheaper after changing from Paypal. The have a flat fee of 1,8€ no matter the amount..

If people were to shift over to using moneybookers when conducting "flea market deals" here at digital, we would all save alot of money and we wouldent be supporting the semi criminal paypal enterprise..

    Have a look at www.moneybookers.com

    1) because their system is not as good as PayPal, and it is inconvenient the way you have to upload money first, enter validation codes, etc.
    2) because a lot of people don't want to put their billing info into another service
    3) because half the time their system does not work. I can't even get it to add my credit card. The only card I could ever get to work there was my PayPal card, which has nice expired (waiting on the replacement).

One more thing is that most people use paypal to buy stuff online, and most services, stores, and personal transactions etc. use paypal. PLus, paypal is a big company, owned my ebay.

Thats all I really have to say, yes no one likes the fees, but give them some credit at least.

Paypal sucks ass. They deserve no credit.

I'm currently going thru their validation service when your transfer 6500 euros. And my f**ing god. I'm so pissed about them I can't even begin..

They REQUIRE me to FAX them like half my life to them, passports, utility bills, bank account excerpts, cover sheets.

I dont even own a fax. Faxes are for like 90+ grandmas with no teeth and no brains. I cant believe paypal doesnt accept a nice hi-res scan (which is btw what I'm sending these assholes anyway - I'm using a online service to fax).

Shit, they suck ass. I hate them. And I havn't even mentioned the fees.

The sorry thing about all this is that there isnt really any alternative. I'd gladly change because paypal offers _NO_ fraud protection anyway (I was scammed of like 1000 euro a couple of months back, slowly recovering those funds by threats via international skype-calls to the asshole who did it -irony, isnt it, I'm using a sister company to paypal to extort my money back.. )....

Thank you for backing me up here iatbm.

I must admit that I havent experienced any of the problems you describe mystimedia..

In my experience the verification system was fast and smooth, much faster than paypal and neteller. You have the option of funding your account with a banktransfer or you could do it immidiately with a CC.. Same as Paypal..

I have never had any problems using my cc there and neither has anyone (other than you :--) I ever heard of..

That being said offcourse new providers cant be expected to deliverer as fast and fail safe a system as paypal has done (can you hear the sarcasm spouting from that statement :--). But IMHO moneybookers is fast becoming a serious alternative..

Sorry if it is semi off topic but...

What would the process be for getting another paypal account if you lost the info for one you already opened. I created it a while ago to do some design jobs but then i never got to the jobs and got into development instead and it ended up that i didn't use it in a long time. Now i need to use it but it is not working. I think I am using the wrong email and password. If I can't get the right info is there a way to get a new account?

That would just give them an exscuse to close your account and confiscate your funds at some point... You are better of mailing them and getting your info..

That's probably because you're not in the U.S.

I too have had all kinds of problems the one time I tried to use them. I sold a site for $5k and let's just say after 15 emails, phone calls, faxing documents, checking the site almost every day, complying with all their ridiculous requirements just to register a bank account and or credit card I finally got my money 3 months later and they took a nice little chunk out of that.

I will never use a non-US based company to do anything with my money again.

That sounds really weird .. I have never transfered anything over 1000$ at moneybookers.. But I never paid anything above the 1% fee.. And to make my withdrawals the fixed 1,8€ fee..

How much did they charge you and what were there reasoning?

I must admit that I dont take being US based as anything too assuring.. Its not like you have the most stringent corporate legislation to be found.. I would actually say that the situation is quite the opposite.. US business laws allow corporations far more leeway than in the UK.. Where moneybookers are registered..

In general the online payment systems secure their business with TOS that makes people waiver their ordinary customer rights. The bigger they get, the greedier they think they can be..

IMHO Moneybookers is just in the right range.. Big enough to be percieved as reliable, but still small enough to be forced to offer competitive prices..

I use PayPal because it's pretty much the most reliable, feature-rich, and ... well, pretty much 100% supported all over the internet.

But I'm doing this from a business standpoint, accepting credit cards couldn't be easier.

you're wrong - is not 100% supported all over the internet
the internet has 1 billion users and paypal has 100 million
the world has around 200 countries and paypal support 55

I use it because it is supported in 100% of the coutries that I ship to. The other side is that more and more people are recognizing Paypal and feeling comfortable to use it. If I switched to Moneybookers or any one of the alternatives, I would lose money.

Personally, I have never had a problem with Paypal. I have recieved payments over $6500 and they give you months to give supporting documentation (a legal requirement) so I'm not about to switch at this point.

I don't have time to support the underdog who may take 10 years or more to gain acceptance among non web savvy buyers.

I appreciate that point on a 1 to 1 basis.

I accept US Dollars for all of my sales instead of my actual currency of Euros because people won't pay as much for things if they don't recognize the currency.

Thats a different issue to what the OP is saying though, that you shouldn't use Paypal because it sucks.

I gather Moneybookers would have to start saturating the e-commerce side of the ineternet the same way Paypal has successfully. I mean, look at how Paypal and Ebay work together seamlessly. Paypal is evrwhere I see online transactions. It's easy. Yeah, I know the fees area little high but convenience is more value these days. Give them time, if they persist they will come through just like Paypal has.

    hehe you short on imagination?

No seriously.. Its true that paypal is supported by alot more merchants than any other payment option.. But how is that to change?

By consumer movements... Hence.. lets get moving..
