Why traffic from USA might be close to nothing?

Have a multi language subtitles site, most numerous subtitles are in English, but somehow almost no visitors from USA. Any ideas why that might be the case?
I mean I am getting more from China or obscure mini-countries I've never heard about...
Any ideas how I could improve that?
I am getting a feeling it might be somehow blocked from the USA... Also Australia is low...
    my site

I am from america, and it works for me.
but the site doesn't appeal to me. If I am going to watch a movie, I go to blockbuster, I don't want subtitles.

well, there are rental/exchange services in most of the countries, but I am getting lots of visitors from them, meaning they need subs. are you suggesting people from USA generally don't use subtitles or download movies online?
I mean all most popular subs are in English for English movies..? There must be some trick to it...

Also in what way does it not appeal to you?

Well subtitles I find the most annoying thing.
Why would I have subtitles, if I can watch the movie in english without subtitles.

well, if movie is in chinese, you'd rather have english subs unless you speak chinese...
but well, I've no idea why people would watch english movie with english subs - my guesses are
    - they can't hear
    - they are not native speakers and find it hard to comprehend english without subtitles, but want to learn.

either way there are a lot of such people around the world, but not in USA somehow...

so you suggest people who dl subs from there are mainly english-speaking people outside US AU, who don't have the english movie in english? that sounds a bit unlikely. Otherwise I don't see how USA conditions differ much from say Greece in terms for need for english subs to english movies...
I am not being sarcastic - I am curious really.

Ok i will explain from my point of view.

If I want to watch a movie, I may DL from the Internet or I might go to blockbuster.
But I find subtitles annoying, so I would go rent a movie in english and pay $5 for it.
Then get a free chinese version with english subtitles.

    Hi Any,

It is as clear as the sunlight that Greek viewers are completely different from American or Australian viewers when it comes to watching English movies with subtitles. I myself am not a native English speaker and one of the things that helped me the most with learning was watching English movies with English subtitles. Nonnatives do definitely tend to do that to learn the language.

Those who speak a good English find it annoying to watch English speaking movies with English subtitles, because it is annoying.

I hope this helps you out a little. By the way, just an advice, your site looks very distracting and you would definitely do well if you try to organize the site a little bit better. People would find it more appealing and actually take some time to check out. I found it very hard to figure things out and this is a turn off for many visitors.

Take care and best of luck with your site. :)

Thanks a lot for both feedback and explanation on the language issue...
I am not a native speaker either, but somehow I skipped this step with English movies with English subtitles in my language learning so I didn't think of it.
Any suggestions as to what might attract more visitors from USA to this kind of site?

With design, well, I am trying to make it more appealing, but it is hard to tell what "more appealing" exactly constitutes, unfortunately...

I highly doubt that sub titles has anything to do with it, after all there are many non English speaking people in America.

Your site is hosted in Germany?

    yeah, hosting form Germany.

Actually I have quite a few visitors from Canada and lots from Latin America (which should be the case with usual America, considering the immigrants numbers even though to a lesser degree).

Maybe something that would make your site more appealing is more information. For example, you could list the language the original movie dialog is in. That way if I'm looking for the subtitles to a Japanese movie, I can browse. I suggest that because sometimes the titles can be translated more than one way into English, making them hard to find. You could also use categories for the movies. That way, if I wanted to watch a Hong Kong martial arts movie, I could browse the list of titles you have the English subtitles for, then I could go find the movie to download.

A bit more content in new pages may help, probably explain the history of sub titles just like the wiki article you are on.

Is your existing visitors coming from search engines such as google? What country is the biggest source of traffic?

I think a lot of people COULD use them but it is just more convenient to play the English version or spanish/french subtitles. Its a big hassle to get the subtitles from your site then re burn it...

yes, but that's third source by quantity with first being link exchange. Most visitors come from Greece, Latin American countries, Western Europe.

with wiki article - well, I was thinking that, but people don't come to subs sites for that, do they? They come to get the sub and run away... Would quizzes be a good idea, you think?

Nonny, well, this won't help much since people usually do not go looking for a subtitle before they get the movie, meaning they would come and use search in say 90% of the cases instead of first looking for some sub and then saying, "oh, why not get a movie to it?" At least that's how I see the situation. I will add links to reviews, though.

with more info - that's a general drag - it has to be something automated, else it means endless composing maintenance...

I would target getting links into US based directories but careful on the keywords you use for your links. I would target "free movie downloads" etc and if they dont like that its sub title movies then at least you have Adsense as another option for them.

I don't think I would want my site to get too popular in the US if you're hosting copyrighted materials for dl on it ;)
