From what I have read so far, seems like Joomla and Drupal is among the best. I would suggest that you read through their functionalities and match against what you want to do with your website.

I always choose between the most popular or a custom made one. The most popular gets me the security of numbers and a large pool of plugins while a custom made CMS gets me flexibility as well as deep knowledge about the system.

Since you're asking, I'll recommend Joomla.

    It depends on several factors:
    • Functionality required for the site
    • How many custom features are you going to add
    • What CMS does your web developer prefer/like
    • How much time and money do you have for the project

May be my opinion will not be popular here, but I am not sure that open source solution is always the best. Once again I love open source and using Linux and some free scripts. As a web developer I just have some bad experience with open source CMSes. That is why I suggest to talk to the one who will develop your site and explain him everything what you are going to create. Some times good sites require so many changes to the CMS than it will be faster to create the site using developers software. That cusom software in most cases is much more flexible and sometimes even can save your money.

I do not suggest one or another solution, just think twice before you will start spending your time and money.

depends on the site. For some cases a specialised CMS may be better. Like OneCMS or gamescript.
