Will anyone ever match the success of Million Dollar Homepage?

    Hi guys :D

Just wondering what you think of the whole Million Dollar Homepage/pixel advertising concept?

People I have spoken to seem to think that only the original Million Dollar Homepage had any merit. I reckon it can still be done though, as sites like milliondollarjerks.com are very successful. What do you think?

very succesful? How? I've never even heard of that thing I I sure aren't interested in visiting it.

Only the original is the one that is valuable... once someone has a good idea you see loads of copycats trying to jump in, but usually they all fail.

I just keep waiting for that special idea to pop in my head and make me a millionaire... can't believe how other people can think of stuff like that and I just can't

Sucess would be an idea that makes money after the fact. Not one that costs a ton to promote and once you make your money it has no use.

How do you know they are earning? Most of them fill the space promoting other sites they have and trying to make peoiple think that they are sold spots.

No one would waste their money in such a thing since there is no value at all in them, the only one worth using was the original milliondollar page and only because it was visited by people from all over the place. But having your link on some John Doe's site which is visited by him and his grandma will sure be a waste of money.

but do you think milliondollar can live up for a long time? I mean its ok now, everyone know about the site. People visit it, but it takes ages to load sometimes.

You think visitor in future will sit n scan every pixel for ads to visit?

Well, erm, people can buy space on it. And also, I have my own blog too! :D

And it is totally different from Million Dollar Homepage because I have put my own 'twist' on things, so am bound to do even better than Alex did! So there!

No, not at all... it was a GREAT idea and if you managed to get in it then you will be a part of internet history, that's the valuable part of it.... but of course it will soon die off and people will move on to another things, that's whe way the net behaves.

But there is a great difference between being a part of the million dollar homepage and being a part of some lame unknown copycat's site

Fryman, you are cool! :D I love how you can tell right away when a site is a lame copycat site, and you seem to know loads about the whole 'pixel' thing :D

I manage a hosting company and a number of clients have installed these milliondollar pixes scripts. I am not complaining because it's extra business. I think they are all wasting their time though as none of them have any good amount of links.

The reason MDHP was so succesful was because it was new and the media rolled with it... it was on the front page all over the world and people were throwing money at the site. It was all the media attention that got it to work. With out that interest the idea is rubbish as no visitors means no reason for advertisers to buy.

I doubt anyone will make it happen again... it's old now "so last year" and time for someone to think of something new.
