Very good points Matthew, my old buddy. But tell me, what happens to all the fine people who spent time and money trying to make a quick buck out of Alex's idea? What are they supposed to do now? :(

I got 200 px probably within the first 5% of advertisers on there and got a fair amount of traffic which has been dying down since Christmas. Maybe just a couple of hundred uniques a month from it... still quite good. The reason I did it was just for the heck of it :)

Wouldnt do it again though for reasons in my post above... anyone else who does it thinks they can make a million from it and they wont :D Media coverage wont happen.

Hang their heads in shame thinking that their copy cat sites would work :D Thats what they are supposed to do now.

Put pen to paper and think of something completly different. If you think long enough then you might come up with a totally new concept (not in PX advertising).

But I have submitted a press release, and have told everyone to 'tell their friends', so surely I will get loads of traffic?

I believe instead of wasting your time on pixels, better use your time to think something creative.

How about a parody site then? Would THAT work?

A press release might get you a few visitors... but it just wont work. Whats exciting about it now? It was unique the first time. Everybody has seen it before.

A parody site? Explain more. LOL :D

The basic rule is that you need to work hard to earn good money and only a minute (less then 0.1%) actually get a free ride.

Oh, I don't know Matthew - say you were to call it Million Dollar JERKS, and then come on to a forum and wind people up. Would that be 'fun', or would it only serve to show how gullible forum 'experts' can be? (hiya Fryman :D)

The answer is no. Just look at all the shitty copy cats. None of them bring any new or fresh ideas to the original, only slight 'spins'. That was a one time thing, 100% of it's success was because it was a FRESH AND ORIGINAL IDEA. This makes it impossible to 'copy' the idea, the only way to replicate it would be to come up with ANOTHER FRESH AND ORIGINAL IDEA and market that.
