    Why do non-profitable things like Tweetdeck or ushahidi get millions of dollars in seed funding? Doesn't make sense to me for so much money to be thrown at completely free applications

    Tweetdeck is free so it will become popular. If you give funds to that company you maybe get it sooner or later back because Tweetdeck will become profitable!
    Don't confuse with the term non-profitable. It is a profitable business but the only thing is that the money can't flow to a pivate person. The money that goes to the organisation will be used for and only for the organisation.
