I think Microsoft's job No.1 is to make money regardless of what they say :) And if they have partners among hardware developers their OS will require a new hardware.

Purchased Windows 7 Ultimate yesterday, it's great. Definitely a step up from XP in my opinion.

go for windows 7 since xp can't be bought officially anymore.

and xp will discontinue their support on 2014 completely and i am guessing no more major bug fixes will be released for xp any more as well.

Windows 7 is the best OS I have ever used, by far. It works on older hardware a lot better than you would expect. I was a huge linux fan and did not like Microsoft a whole lot, but MS has done an amazing job with Win7.

I think I'll wait until it has been out for a while. MS always seems to have something up with the os in the beginning. It would almost be a better route to just buy a new machine with win7 rather than messing with the price of an upgrade and the time and hassle. I'll wait for more time to pass and more reviews, then probably just buy a new pc probably in the first 1/2 of 2010.

This is true, I think you need Virtualization turned on in your BIOS and you have to install the XP Mode, the base files are included, but you have to install it if you want to use it.

    I like Virtual PC.

Iv had windows 7 for around 3 - 4 months now iv done many testing and playing around with it. The major advantage of windows 7 is the boot up and hibernation/sleep/shutdown timing has been reduced so much that it only takes around a minutes to boot up from the moment you power up.

Another good thing about it is that all the problems you had in vista have now been resolved in windows 7 and made more user friendly interface's around the system, such as navigation and accessiblity weather it is using the search feature or just browsing your documents.
