Wordpress blog - ad placement

My site is at http://www.homemadehealthypetfood.com. I know the ads should be above the fold, but will placing my adsense on the right above everything else in the right column make the blog look too ... in your face commercial?

Also, the other adsense link I have is right below the first post. Is this a good place for it? Should I also have one above the first post, and if so, how do you do that in a wordpress blog?

I put the adsense blocks up 2 days ago. I've had around 250 impressions, and no clicks.

I started that blog to promote an affiliate product - a dog food recipe book. Its been fairly successful for my first attempt at a commercial website, its only 6 weeks old, and I sell about 6 products a week with 120 uniques a day. I was warned that adsense would cause people to click away and they would not buy the product I am pushing. However, I decided to test that theory, and put these blocks up. I just wonder if I'm doing it right. Any reviews and assistance will be appreciated.

Well, I know you weren't asking for domain advice, but if you are going with a domain that long, things will be harder.
