When you're starting a new forum, it's advisable not to have too many categories. New visitors will take a look, see all those empty categories, and flee. Open with 3-4, then when you get popular, split them up into additional categories.

If you have people taking a look at the forum but not signing in (i.e. you have a lot of numbers going, but no one is staying) you might want to consider spending some money and hiring "forum posters" i.e. people who will go to your forum and make a certain number of threads/posts for you for a fee. It'll help jumpstart the board, and once you remove most of the categories, the forum will look busy and get more people to sign up. There's nothing worst to a potential member than an empty board with only the administrator posting.

Check in the "services" section if you're interested in paying. As I recall, it's not really expensive. $20 and up.

 

$20....don't have that much.....I am re-organinzing the board right now.
