Do you folks have no problems ordering domains or other stuff over the net these days, like for instance godaddy.com seems pretty neet and has low rates for domains, I was about to order one with my checking account, but was too weary to enter my bank account and routing numbers LOL

You folks just do it without worrying ? I don't have a credit card etc... but I guess one payment method is as hacker safe as another

Is it possible for someone living in the States to get their bank account cleaned out by a person that knows his/her bank account number?

Another flaw i see if this is the case.

And can you not turn it around if it would happen?

Open two or more bank accounts. Use one for online payments and feed money into it as needed. Thus there is never a significant balance to worry about.

I've been using GoDaddy for years, never had a problem with them. I have 5 or 6 domains through them.

I had 20+ domains with GD.

One day I received an email saying that a 'spam' complaint was issued against me. I had to prove I didn't spam, or pay compensations(admin fees). If I did not comply my domains would be 'frozen'. They explained they didn't define what 'spam' was, but I had to prove I didn't spam. Confused me, so I contacted them. Cleared things up, but in hind-sight I recall at the bottom of one of the GD emails, they politely asked for me to update my credit card information, so they could charge me about 200 admin fee for that complaint.

Because they didn't have my updated billing information, they seemed willing to talk. I can only wonder what if I had a current billing information on my account.

bluegill you asked about letting them have access to your bank account. I still have domains with GD, I wasn't so scared that I moved all my domains asap. But.... as they get ready to expire I move them over to 1and1.

Just you might get what you pay for. ;)

I would still go with godaddy over yahoo domains. i tried registering a domain with yahoo, and they have some DNS issues. turns out this wasn't just an isolated case either.

This part of Godaddy's reply concerns me since i as well have a few domains over there,

Don't they realize the difference that board spamming or advertising since the guy was already active for quite some while on these Yahoo boards and truly illegal spamming via email towards thousands not millions of unsollicited advertisement?.

I'm switching as soon as i can...no way i am going to let my domains hosted with them.

What about the catch: "advertisements for"

So if you find a competitor that uses GD, can you spam their web addresses, advertising for them? ;) Since the real webmaster didn't do it, they will have a hard time proving they are innocent. :(

I have never had a problem with GoDaddy. I have been with them a couple of years and I have never had a dodgy feeling.

All critical transactions are through secure servers, which makes it that much more difficult for people to listen in on the transaction and extract your credit card details.

However, as I do with other etailers, I do not save my credit card information as part of my account information on their site.

Same here. Always having 10-20 domains with GD.

    Never one single problem.

Even though at this time you haven't had any problems with Godaddy it is obvious that any competing webmaster could cause problems for you.

It doesn't matter if your card information is not on file, they expect you to pay and if you do not then they will drop your site.

This kind of policy is not tolerable and i would not take the risk to host a site with them that holds any significant income or content.

If i was your competition then i could potentially file a complaint with bogus evidence that i even myself would have fabricated and you would need to pay $200 to continue with your site.
A whole bunch of complaints could put you out of business.

I don't trust Godaddy ar hardly any company with that type of information, especially Paypal. We used to use Godaddy to register everything but ceased when we realized they were storing our information and nothing on their site that we could find about them being PCI compliant

This is my site. Funny thing is, the very next day, I got an email from GoDaddy telling me that the entire case had been dropped, and they considered it a closed matter. Sure they did, after all the negative press it got them...

Funny when I submitted all the 'proof' I was NOT guilty, I got nothing in return. As if they were mad they didn't get their money. :(

Oh, I quickly moved the threatened domain off GD, and as my domains expire I move them off too.

Good job presenting your case to the "court of public option."

techlh - on your site linked to above, I'm wondering if maybe the #8 comment response listed at the bottom might be a GoDaddy employee....
Hah, their 'idont.haveawebsite" link makes it even more suspicious.
