"You'll never amount to anything"

Someone said to me today " I always knew you would never amount to anything and you'll lash out at others because of it"

As offensive as it was, I found two great lessons in this insult.

1) Always respect the success of others. Even if you are a complete failure, always pay respect to the people who achieve their dreams.

2) Take ownership of your life. Even if you truly never amount to anything, take responsibility for your actions.

 

Glad to hear you learned something. Words can hurt only if you let them.

 

I think that you may want to consider a third potential lesson from this experience:

3. Do not let others define you or your potential for/achievement of success.

The insult that you heard from that person reflects more on them than on you. And it does not reflect well on that person who sounds to be quite pathetic, in fact.

 

I'd agree with your second point, but as far as being respectful of others' success - it's optional. There are many really crappy successful people out there. They are just utter morons and jerks who have happened to make a lot of money.

And please, get away for good from anyone who says to you: "I always knew you would never amount to anything..."

PS Unless it's your spouse, LOL.

 

There are too many mean people out there in the world. As qwuikad said, you only have to tolerate that from ones you know say it out of temporary anger etc. The minute you sense someone taking it out on you realize it is because THEY are the inferior one that has to lash out at others to feel good about themselves.

 

People are entitled to their personal opinions,what anybody says about you does not matter,prove to you own self that you are capable of success,work hard at it and pray,it works
