Young Earners Face Intense Financial Challenges.

I had to start a thread on this one. The USA Today ran an article about something I know more about than anyone: the financial challenges young people face today.

Its hard to disagree with her analysis. Its hard to go to college or start a business when everything is so expensive and the bills just keep going up.

Just to feed myself this month I spent close to 90 bucks, and I buy the cheapest food in the grocery store.

What drives me nuts is that I know who ultimately is behind the financial problems young people like myself are facing today, and I wish I could get within close range to their skull with a sawed off shotgun.

No matter how damn hard I work to build my business and save money, my damn bills keep going up. My power bill is 80 bucks more today than it was 2 years ago!

If I could just get Alan Greenspan or other people from the FED in a dark alley I'd have a hell of a field day.................

 

I was born in 1973 and have no income problems at all.

You just need to work your ass off and you will be successful, no matter when you were born.

 

Well, I'm not living in poverty, and my online sites are making me enough to save money.

But at the same time, don't you guys just get the impression that their are certain "external" forces at work that wish to bring you to failure?

Even if I work my ass off, I can't control the fact that the value of the dollar is falling unless I buy gold/silver.

And how can I beat the power company? I feel like a sitting duck. Whenever they want to jack up the power bill, they just do it, and I don't know what I can do to stop paying their fees.

Most people in this forum are self employed, but a lot of people in college(like a guy I know) are strapped for cash. They are going broke and getting in debt just to buy books and get degrees for jobs that probably won't be there when they graduate.

 

I was born in 1969 and I think the younger ones have it easier than we had it back in the days.

 

Haha, glad I could fit in somewhere. School + Books + Housing + Food + Gas + Insurance + Car + Saturday Night + The Stuff I'm forgetting = Broke.
And I think (not to gloat..) that I do better then most of the other students I go to school with. I haven't a clue how they do it.

 

Well... I do agree that life is tough. I see it whenever I hang around with my firends and I don't even loook at the prices wherever we go, while they have to check their wallet 10 times to see what they can afford.

This is why being self employed and earning nice money doing something I love is like a dream to me.

 

i think the US is a bad place to live if u dont want to enter into the intense competition. at least on other countries, the government or comapanies must give u a lot of support if u have difficult times. i think japan and sweden have systems, where no matter what u study or work, at least u have enough money to have a descent life. u can become rich yeah but if u cant do well at least u wont be left behind alone. i cant say the same in the US, so i agree with the article.

 

lol - the other day, I had to buy my university texts. That came to just under $600 CAD for four books. I paid the same in september

Put that on top of $11,000 that I pay for tuition every year and the $12,000 per year to pay for food, rent and diesel for my car, and it's no wonder noone in my generation is going to get out of debt - if you don't go to university, you are unskilled, and will never get a great job. If you do go to university, you get so far in debt that just the interest payments hurt your bottom line alot.

Now, I realize that it was my choice to go to a private university, but other than that, I live as dirt cheap as possible. But, I go in debt a good $15,000 per year while in university...

Hope that adsense picks up...

 

I think in the US you can become rich faster and also flat broke faster than anywhere else in the world.

 

Isn't the internet a wonderful miracle? I see teens earning hundreds or thousands of dollars withtheir sites, it is just amazing, some of them are still at school and almost earning as much as their dad.

 

I think it's great. I've wasted my teenage years completely. My life would have been a lot better had I discoverd this earlier on.

 

I only discovered this internet marketing last year and I have made some good money. If I had begun when I was younger...


I know a friend who began building his own sites back in 1997 when he was 11. Had he continued to this day im sure he could have been a millionaire or atleast not having to work at a movie theatre part time. Too bad he quit.

 

So it's just a question of handling financial stability I guess.

 

I grew up in a "low-to-average" income household with 2 parents and 1 sibling. We never went to bed hungary but we also didn't wear the "name brand" clothes that other kids did.

1 year of college was $25,000, a car was $4,000, rent+bills during college racked up a few thousand more in Credit card debt. Before I had finished my first year of college I was over $30,000 in debt, and on top of full time college I worked full time making a measly $10/hour (before taxes :rolleyes).

I was overwhelmed and felt extra powerless after I found out the trade college I was going to was regarded by local employers as a "joke" ... with my AA degree I was laughed at.

Here in Phoenix it's typical to see Vipers, Vettes, Lamborginis, BMWs, Mercedes, etc all lined up traffic... if you don't drive a brand new $50,000+ car you're poor.

Let's just say SEO and the internet have saved me from a lot of depression. I now have the luxury of working for myself and being debt free.

 

That's just not true.

Success has nothing to do with when you were born. You dictate your own success by the efforts you make and the merrits you have.

Life isn't 'easy'. :|

 

Isn't that the mentality of all oldies?

 

The internet is a great place to make money now, but I don't know about a few years from now. I just see tons of government regulation on the horizon.

I'm thankful to the internet for a lot of the things I've been able to do. Without it I don't know where I would be.

There is one thing I've made up my mind about. Since it is so hard to make money and everything cost so much I've decided not to buy hardly anything, other than food and the necessary expenses. Why invest in a society that wants to take everything from you?

My brother went to the fucking hospital because his back hurts and even though he had insurance and got a check up he still has a bill over 500 bucks.

Is it any wonder young people are broke and in debt these days? Then the government and society wonder why so many young people are out of control, why nobody cares or gives a shit.

One more thing. If I ever get to the point I've making six figures I will NEVER giver a dime to any stinking charity. Because no one ever gave anything to me and all society tried to do was destroy my hopes and dreams, and make me a slave by putting me in debt.

Yoyo, I can't afford a Viper but I don't consider myself to be poor. All those fuckers driving those fancy cars think they're living the "American Dream." The y don't impress me because I know most of them are in debt up to their eyeballs.

And when the stock market and economy are intentionally "crashed" and the US enters a recession, those same idiots who never thought to buy gold or save money or get out of debt will be on the streets......
