Your thoughts on dreams

Do you remember your dreams? At least some of them? I remember my dreams sometimes. But do you believe dreams really have meanings? You see all these interpretations of what certain things mean but I don't believe it.

For example I've read a dream about a death means a birth, yet it never happens.

I'd like to know why we dream though and if there's some subconscious meaning to it all.

Birth doesn't necessarily mean child-birth - literally it can mean the birth of something, the start of something new, just as the Death tarot card doesn't mean someone will die, just the end of something.

Had ny first lucid dream yesterday in weeks...

Lots of psychology to remember, feeling very sleepy...

Never thought of that actually, but yeah I see what you mean, the start of something new... I just don't remember anything new starting when I had a dream about death. I guess I was so stuck on thinking it meant someone would have a baby. LOL.

Well share your dream later Lever, tomorrow when you're wide awake. Would love to hear all about it. ;)

Dreams are basically the brain's way of filing recent experiences and memories. Think of it as a huge filing system, based on meaning or semantics. While you dream, items in short term memory (recent experiences, your "inbox") are sifted through and compared with an array of items in long-term memory (folders in the filing cabinet) -- do these two things match? no? okay, check the next file... do these two things match?... etc. That's why dreams often seem so bizarre, because of the seemingly unrelated or impossible to link juxtapositions. It's simply information processing -> filing.

The exception is dreams about traumatic or highly emotionally charged or worrisome / anxious events, which tend to be more "episodic" in nature -- rather like a video or movie of the memory -- and these may be "recurrent dreams".

Other than that, looking for obscure symbolism in your dreams is like looking for predictive meaning in horoscopes.

Thanks for the explanation minstrel! ;) It's good to know, I've always wondered about dreams, I have some pretty intense, strange one's sometimes.

Roger that, minstrel. What used to make me laugh was those intricate interpretations of dreams... no matter what crazy story was written about visions of streams, rivers and lakes I know that when I dream of running water, when I next wake up I need to go take a leak LOL

Look at those Adsense ads above that this thread spawned, very interesting ads.

Great post Minstrel, interesting subject Kalina, you have quite an imagination, Shawn should give you a raise :)

You and Kalina are the DP tag team Minstrel, no one will beat you two :)

That scares me, my theory is, if you can't beat them join them, I think the other members will catch up to that learning curve in a hurry.

My group would be the "Three stooges", I just don't see Minstrel and yourself fitting in to that one.

So you better stick with the "tag team". :D

Plus you two need no help  That scares me

I don't want you to get a big head, but I have been here for a while and have not seen a new member make such an impact in a short period of time.

I am sure Minstrel is star struck also

:D That is both scary and encouraging -- the greatest hope of any generation should be that the next will outdo them...
